We are scrapping Northern Westeros and going with a new map. The reason is due to the overwhelming amount of building a 2 man team would need to do to make Winds of Winter what we wanted it to be. So instead we are taking all the same ideas (realism, bloodlines, moxie skills) and putting them into a new custom map. We don't even know what we are going to name the server yet little alone the continent. All we know is it will be relatively the same size as the old map. Players will be able to own almost all of the territory except for a few islands which will be where "The Keeps" will be located. Those keeps will be up for grabs (in a capture the flag scenario) and the owning bloodline will get bonuses for getting them.
We are officially making the switch to a dedicated server. Meaning more ram (double actually) more CPU power and more disk space. This means the server will be down for most of the night however so unfortunately you won't get to play.
Let's start off with: I would like to thank everyone who has been testing for us, and even donating. Without your help... blah blah blah. On to the good stuff.
Bloodlines is doing rather well in terms of development. We have the basic parts of it done, and mostly bug free. Our next step is formatting the interface (messages). Then adding in things like influence, taxes; and finally hooking it into the Dynmap. Of course we will be fixing bugs as we go, but that is a given.
MoxieSkills, in the next month or two will be totally wiped and replaced with a new version (details can be found here). We are planning on giving the players some kind of an XP bonus and making the skills easy to level at first for testing purposes however you will be starting from scratch. We will also be adding in "trainers" which you will be able to buy your levels from (like the elder scroll games). Cost will be based on XP you need to level.
Lore Locks, will be brought back. This will give the player a way to lock your chests and secure your goods from other players while sticking to the lore. We tried this initially but no one used them so this time around we plan on creating a full tutorial on how to use and pick the locks.
Winter Chat, will be coming back within the next patch. This means all chat will be localized with sound degradation making it harder for people to communicate. This will also add in the title manager system we have planned on having since day one so prepare to see things like "Ser Ratkoon Stark" in your chat. Mounts, are currently being developed to give the types and tiers worth more than the color and pattern. Eventually the Mighty horses will have the highest health, the Swift will have the fastest gallop, and the Steady will be a well balanced mix. The tiers (Nag, Steed, Purebred) will be general modifiers making the horses overall better as you advance through the tiers.
Quests and Server Introduction, will soon be implemented meaning you will get to experience a nearly 30 minute quest explaining the server and how it works, disguised as an epic quest to return the lost Valyrian blade to Maester Aemon at Castle Black. Regular quests will mostly be weekly or daily repeatables such as killing other house members by the dozen for some quick gold, or skinning wolves for their hides.
Mobs, will soon be spawning only north of the ice wall. This has been a long time coming but we plan on having this implemented within the next week or two. Their drops will also be greatly changed to fit the server lore a bit more completely.
Dungeons, won’t be a thing for a while. We first are going through the motions of figuring out exactly how we want to implement them. The fun part of the dungeons seemed to be the fact that other players could come kill you while you were inside of it making it all the more difficult so we will mostly be sticking with that flavor.
General NPCs, are growing in number and we don’t plan to stop any time soon. Both the Inn Keeper and the Bar Tender will be added in rather soon giving the player even more of a reason to visit Winters Town making it more a of central hub.
Shops are in need of player opinion to make them more robust. We need you guys to give us ideas on what they should sell and buy so that we know and understand what your needs are as a player. Post those opinions here. We also plan on adding 2 new shops very soon: The Alchemist, and The Farmer. This will come along with a winter’s town modification.
